An albatross is a large seabird, and one of the largest flying birds with the biggest wingspan. Several species of albatross are threatened to the point of extinction due to pollution, DDT, and introduced species. Its synonyms refer to the various names of birds in the orders Procellariiformes (albatross, cagarra, cahow, fulmar, glutton, muttonbird, petrel, prion, ranguru, shearwater, storm petrel), Suliformes (parekareka), and Charadriiformes (all other synonyms).
