Chain Chomps are dog-like ball and chain enemies from the Super Mario franchise. They are usually found chained to posts and are extremely aggressive towards anyone who comes near them. They appear as Guest Objects in the Wii U and European 3DS Versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited.

They have 100 HP and deal 9 HP per hit with their attacks.

Like other Nintendo guest objects, Chain Chomps cannot have adjectives applied to them, and cannot be edited with the Object Editor.

Behavior[]

Chain Chomps become hostile towards Mario, Luigi, Toads and Yoshis, and give chase to them in an attempting to attack them. Chain Chomps are otherwise harmless and are neutral to all other NPCs and the Player unless they are provoked.

When attacking, they have a special attack animation that where they lunge at their enemy before being stopped by their chain, making it appear like the Chain Chomp is chained to something. This is how Chain Chomps attack while chained down in the Mario series.

In Scribblenauts, Chain Chomps are not chained to anything like they typically are in the Mario series, and are able to move around freely. Their chains are also not functional like normal Chains, and cannot be attached to things in an attempt to restrict the Chain Chomp's movement.

Trivia[]

  • Chain Chomps are the only Mario series enemy besides Bowser to attack Yoshis.
  • The Chain segments on Chain Chomps are always perfectly horizontal, and do not properly connect with each other.
    • As an art style choice, several depictions of Chain Chomps use disconnected rings for chains instead of actual chain links. It's possible Scribblenauts intended to do this as well but decided against it last minute. This could explain the issues with the chain being horizontal and not connecting, as round objects wouldn't need to be rotated and the rings weren't intended to connect.
    • Additionally, the chain seems to be layered incorrectly, with the link that's the second from the end being layered above the link that's the 3rd from the end.
