The Level editor is a tool available in both Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts, allowing players to create their own scenarios to solve. Levels can also be shared locally or through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Scribblenauts[]
A custom level being made.
In Scribblenauts, the level editor is available in each profile's options menu. Levels may only be of the Action type, meaning that the player must only get to the Starite to complete the level. There are twelve slots for custom levels, each one needing to be based on an existing level that has already been cleared by the player. They are also shared between both profiles.
Bugs[]
- If you try to create a level using P2-9, the game freezes on a black screen.
- Using MUSIC31 (Zoo 1) in a level will cause the game to not play the level start, level failed and level complete jingles.
Editor[]
Create objects with writepad [sic], then place. Tap objects to script. Tap arrow for toolbar.
Using the editor, you can place objects such as hazards for the player to navigate through in order to get to the Starite. Living objects can also be scripted to do specific actions, which can be any of the following:
- Consume: The object consumes the other object as if it were food.
- Follow: The object follows the other object.
- Guard: The object guards the other object.
- Uses: The object uses the other object, such as an appliance. Only certain objects can be used.
- Mount: The object rides on (or in) the other object. Only certain objects can be mounted.
- Steal: The object tries to steal the other object. Only certain objects can be stolen.
- Protect: The object protects the other object. (Editor's note: how is this different to guard?)
- Attack: The object attacks the other object until it is destroyed.
- Scared Of: The object is scared of the other object and will actively avoid it.
In order for the level to be saved, the Starite (Level Editor) must be created and placed within the level. This will create a real Starite, but only one can be created per level. After it is saved, it can then be played by going into the Extra Levels menu. Note however that Ollars are not earned by completing custom levels.
Options[]
There are four options available in the level settings:
- Par: Player can set the goal number of objects to be used.
- Level hint: Players can write a hint here.
- Music: The player can select from thirty-one of the thirty-four different unlockable background tracks to be used in the level.
- Name: Name of the level.
Super Scribblenauts[]
A level being made
In Super Scribblenauts, the level editor is greatly improved. Levels where the player must complete objectives before the Starite appears can now be created. Custom layouts can also be created. However, because of this, the number of custom level slots in Super Scribblenauts was reduced to eight.

Post-Super Scribblenauts[]
The level editor was removed in all games after Super Scribblenauts, due to Scribblenauts Remix being for mobile devices, and later games using a completely different setup for levels entirely. It still exists as an object, but it doesn't allow you to access an editor.
