Level Editor (also called Custom Levels in Super Scribblenauts) is a gameplay mode available in both games Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts. With this, you can create levels with it using templates. Sadly, you can not make your own tile layout or make puzzle levels. This is changed in Super Scribblenauts, in which you have been given the ability to make levels from scratch (including the terrain) and assign various actions to objects.
Scribblenauts
In Scribblenauts, the level editor is available in profiles. The level editor is very simple in Scribblenuts due to having a few options, such as lack of "puzzle" levels, in which the player must perform an action before the Starite appaers.. There are up to twelve slots for custom levels.
Locations
Select the world that your new levels exist in.
In Scribblenauts, it is required to at least complete one of Challenge Mode's levels (excluding the University/Tutorial) to use the level editor. The location depends on the level template select, either puzzle or action levels. You will have to complete the selecting level to unlock for level editor.
Editor
Create objects with writepad, then place. Tap objects to script. Tap arrow for toolbar.
This is where the main gameplay starts. Only NPCs have scripts and the scripts are:
- Consume = Consumes object.
- Follow = Follows object.
- Guard = Guards object, and will attack any trespassers.
- Uses = Uses object. Only some certain objects can be used.
- Mount = Mounts object. Only some certain objects can be mounted.
- Steal = Steals object. Only some certain objects can be stealed.
- Protect = Protects object.
- Attack = Attacks object.
- Scared = NPC is scared of the object.
- The real starite has to be created in the level to be saved. (You can save the level by pressing the floppy disk button.) After you save, player must select a slot to save the level.
- The Starite that will allow you beat the level has a unique shine.
- Hostile NPCs sometimes do not follow protective scripts (eg: Death following Man) though they follow the script consumes....
Options
To modify settings to your level, give it a name and a hint for the solution.
There are four things available in the level settings:
- Par = Player can set how many pars in the level.
- Level hint = Player can write a hint.
- Music = Player can set the soundtrack on the level.
- Name = Name of the level.
Super Scribblenauts
In Super Scribblenauts, the level editor is greatly improved. Levels in which a trigger must first happen before the Starite appears are creatable. Custom terrain and backgrounds can also be chosen, However, because of this, the custom level slots in Super Scribblenauts are reduced to 8.
Tutorial
- Welcome to the level editor! Tap any empty slot to begin creating a custom level.
- Choose a level type from the templates provided. Try beginning with creating your own title screen using the Playground template.
- Here you can create the terrain for your level. Use disk to save at any time! To start placing terrain, tap either the hard or soft terrain type. Use the magnifying glass on any tool to get a helpful description of what it does!

Ideas
Share your level ideas here.
1. Explain your idea
2. How you made it
3 The type of level
4How you solve it.
Maxwell and the toy:
1 In Maxwell and the toy, agent Maxwell has infiltrated the enemy base to release his captive allys.
2 I made this level with many antagonists, mainly invaders, lava, the castle background and terrain and a toy.
3 This type of level is an 'Obstacle' level
4 To complete it you must first get your flying toy armed with a gun into a small corridor. Fight the invader then open the door to let Maxwell enter the base. Fight past the enemy in the trampoline room and dig up to the main hall, with two invaders guarding. parachute down the hole on the right and press the yellow switch. Then use the jetboots to jump back to the hall. Behind the door was a Grim Reaper. Fight it with your gun and proceed to the throne room and fight the king. It's really easy, due to his massive size. Dig up the terrain to release your ally who is oddly very angry at your arrival. Take the briefcase, open it and the starite is yours... or is it?
Maxwell and the Toy 2:
1. It was a trap. The starite was fake, as was the ally, and now Maxwell's captured. Now we only have the toy we left behind in episode one.
2. This is fairly similiar to the original level, with the same enemies and BG.
3. This is an obstacle level.
4. To complete this you must first get Maxwell out. Go down the small hole in the ground and fight an invader. Open the blue door to another invader. Hit the yellow switch and you now have Maxwell again. But wait... he's chained down. Get the toy back up, destroy the chain, and use Maxwell to swim through the water crridor, fighting another invader. He ends the room with a hole in the floor, leading to 2 more invaders. Fight them, go down the slope to see the Grim Reaper again. After dealing with him, the blue door's in the way again. Use the toy to hit the blue switch, again, and continue into another hole. There's a room below you with a bottomless pit, two trampolines and a red switch. It's hard to do this normally, so you have a parachute and a grapple hook. After the blue switch is pressed the ally's cell door opens. Go to the next room, fight the small king inside a mech, then go to the ally and open his briefcase. VICTORY!
The kingly murder:
1 Your regal ruler has been murdered and only three suspects are available; the queen, the butler and the chef. Using the clues in the basement and basement, find and kill the murderer.
2 I used the castle template. There's a dead king, a queen butler and chef in the main hall, a hidden basement and bedroom. IF you kill the wrong person, Fail!
3 This is a defend level. Scripting: Queen-kill Butler- defend Chef- Defend.
4 Clue 1; Go into the bedroom upstairs. Open wardrobe 1 to find two crowns. Open the second one to find a crown a ruby ... and a KNIFE. Let's work out who owns these by their contents.
Puzzle 1: Who's wardrobe? Firstly, there are crowns in both so this must mean the king and queen own them. But who owns which one? Let's test with the ruby in wardrobe 2. Summon a king and queen. The queen takes it and the king ignores it. So the knife belongs to the queen, however it may have just been placed there.
Clue 2; Dig into the carpet and dig to the right to find a little room containing a statue of a murderer wearing a crown.
Puzzle 2: The Odd Room. Let's see... could this be of the queen? It's wearing a crown. It COULD be the king and he threatened to kill the queen and someone fought back, but then someone would say something. And look, there's diggable terrain leading straight up to the queen's wardrobe....
Answer: Kill the Queen.
Naughty Maxwell
1 It's a lovely day. Perfect for getting out doors, smelling the roses and PESTERING YOUR NEIGHBOUR TO DEATH!
2. I used the city template.
3 This is a Do Action Level Scripting: Set house on fire, destroy seed, destroy car.
4 First jump over the wall into your neighbours garden. Dig up her seed and destroy it. Then destroy her car, and set her house on fire. The starite will appear at your front door.
Space Invaders
1 We're being invaded. Pick up that machine gun, mount your war horse and FIGHT
2 I used the Ruins background with the outer space terrain.
3. This is a Playground level.
4 Maxwell, suited up in his army uniform and saddled onto his war horse ( I call Epona, after LOZ OOT) and fight those aliens. You also have with you many allies.
