Luigi is Mario's brother and the secondary protagonist of the Mario series. Despite his occasionally cowardly tendencies Luigi often joins Mario in adventures and assists him on many occasions. He appears as a Guest Object in the Wii U and the European 3DS versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited.
He has 100 HP and deals 5 HP per hit with his normal attack.
Like other Nintendo guest objects, Luigi can only be given specified items, cannot have adjectives applied to him, and cannot be edited with the Object Editor.
Behavior[]
Luigi is both friendly and protective of Peach, Mario, Toads, and Yoshis, and will fight anyone who tried to hurt them. He also naturally fights Mario series enemies, including Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Shy Guys, and Bowser, but is scared of Boos, Bob-ombs, and Chain Chomps. He is otherwise neutral, and does not attack unless provoked.
Luigi will try to ride any Karts, Dirt Bikes or Yoshis he sees.
Luigi will pick up Baseball Bats, Golf Clubs, and Tennis Rackets, and he will also kick Soccer Balls.
Luigi will try to collect Coins, Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, and Super Stars. He will also pick up Turnips and can throw them at enemies as an attack.
Fire Flowers have a unique effect when collected by Luigi, transforming him into Fire Luigi. This changes his appearance, With his overalls becoming green and his shirt and hat becoming white, and grants him the ability to shoot special bouncing Fireballs at enemies that deal 20 damage. The transformation is lost when Luigi takes damage.
When Luigi is under the effects of a Super Star, he will take advantage of it and seek out as many Enemies as he can. Luigi will also take out the Boos, Bob-ombs, and Chain Chomps that would otherwise scare him away.
Luigi is able to jump a bit higher than most people, even higher than his brother Mario.
Luigi dies with a unique death animation, where he sticks his arms and legs out and jumps in the air before disappearing.
Two Luigis cannot exist in one level at the same time. Creating a new Luigi while one is already in a level will destroy the older one.
Trivia[]
- Excluding his higher jump, Luigi's behaves identically to Mario, and has no references to the Luigi's Mansion series.
- Luigi's heightened jump is a trait Luigi is frequently given, and first appeared in the US release of Super Mario Bros. 2.
- None of the other attributes commonly seen with Luigi's jump boost are present Scribblenauts though, such as the increased speed, scuttle jump, or decreased traction.
- Luigi's interest in Karts and Dirt Bikes is a reference to the Mario Kart series.
- Luigi's interest in sports items is a reference to various Mario sports games and series, such as Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers/Mario Football, and Mario Superstar Baseball.
- Luigi picking up and throwing Turnips is a reference to the US release of Super Mario Bros. 2.
- Luigi's death animation is based on his death animation in the Mario series.
- Luigi's sprite doesn't simply get mirrored like every other sprite in the Wii U version of Scribblenauts Unlimited. Instead, he has two versions of his hat that get used for when he faces left and right, so that the "L" on it is always correct.
- None of the other asymmetrical designs in the game do this, even among the other Nintendo objects.
- Luigi's hat doesn't have an "L" on it in the 3DS version of Scribblenauts Unlimited, instead his had simply has a blank white circle.
- Luigi's legs use a different shade of blue compared to his body. This is likely a mistake, especially since Mario's overalls don't do this.
