Maxwell's Family

Maxwell's family consists of Maxwell, his twin sister Lily, 40 brothers, and their parents Edgar and Julie, making 44 family members in total. Besides Maxwell himself, Maxwell's family was introduced in Scribblenauts Unlimited.

Maxwell (pictured to the right) is the main character of the series. He is featured in all of the Scribblenauts titles.

Lily[]

Lily (pictured in the image to the right) is Maxwell's twin sister and the narrator of the story in some games. She debuted in Scribblenauts Unlimited, along with the rest of Maxwell’s family. She bears a strong resemblance to her mother and Maxwell. Maxwell and Lily have a close relationship.

Maxwell's parents were both great adventurers before they settled down and had 42 kids. Each of their children was given a magical item that the parents found in their travels. These treasures included Maxwell’s notebook and Lily’s globe.

In Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked, Edgar, Julie, Lily, and Maxwell can only be spawned using "@" objects, cloning machine, or teleporter.
- In Scribblenauts Showdown, Edgar and Julie became spawnable normally. However, this does not extend to Lily and Maxwell.
Edgar and Julie had 42 children, which is the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything" in Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
All of Maxwell's brothers can be spawned with the notebook.
- This does not include Maxwell himself, or his sister Lily, neither of which can be normally spawned in any game.
Mix and Mox are the only brothers that the player can unlock at the same time.
Several areas in Scribblenauts Unlimited have either 1 or 2 of Maxwell's brothers for the player to unlock.
Lily is unlockable in Scribblenauts Unlimited once the player has 60 Starites and completes the game.
Also available as avatars in Scribblenauts Unlimited are Edgar and Julie. The player can get them by collecting every Starite in the game, with exact number varying depending on if the player is playing on the original or Mega Pack version.
Maxwell's brothers can be spawned in Unmasked, but can only be played as when created in the Avatar Creator.
Every member of the family wears a different rooster hat, stylized to look like different hairstyles.
The existence of Doppelganger and Doppelily somewhat implies that Maxwell's 40 other siblings and parents also have clones that we haven't seen.
Captain Ferdinand's role in the family is unknown. He can be spawned in the Scribblenauts Mega Pack version of Scribblenauts Unlimited, and is coded as one of Maxwell's brothers. However, he doesn't appear in any level, cannot be unlocked as an avatar, and the game's story was not changed to acknowledge him.
- It's possible another sibling exists in the Mega Pack that was intended for the Land of Sweet Hyperbole, just as Ferdinand appears to have been intended for the Zed Zeppelin. However, this is purely speculative.
In Scribblenauts Unlimited, the opening cutscene is narrated by a female voice and refers to "Grandpa Edgar" and "Grandma Julie". This strongly suggests that the narrator is an adult Lily, and that she's telling the events of the story to the grandkid or grandkids of Edgar and Julie.
- It's also likely Lily is the mother of the grandchildren. However, it's possible Lily is instead their aunt, and they actually belonging to Maxwell or one of his many other siblings.
- It's unknown exactly how many grandchildren Lily is talking to in the cutscene. She could be only talking to one grandkid, or Lily could be talking to a large number of them like her own sibling count.
