A Red Switch is an object that only appears in the original Scribblenauts. It was used as a color variant of the Switch prior to the introduction of adjectives in Super Scribblenauts.
A red switch was often used to activate certain doors in levels, especially the similarly-colored Steel Door Red or Large Steel Door Red, and would need to be interacted in levels to access Starites.
Additionally, red was the original default color of switch in Scribblenauts, and was the color used when "Switch" was entered into the notepad without specifying Red, Green or Blue. This was changed starting in Super Scribblenauts, where blue was made the default color to match the default Steel Door.
Appearance[]
The red switch appears as a lever in a small mechanical box. It has a metal handle with a red sphere on the end of it to hold, and the metal box containing the lever is plated in red as well.
Behavior[]
When spawned by the player, a red switch can be interacted with to move it's handle from off to on and vice versa, though this does little as it isn't connected to anything.
However, within levels, including custom levels made using the Level Editor, switches are a common tool used to trigger a variety of things.
In addition to simply flipping them yourself, several additional methods can also be used to trigger switches, which can often be useful depending on the level or situation.
- Engineers will flip a switch once if they are near one.
- Electrifying a switch causes it to trigger, which can be done through a variety of methods such as connecting it to a battery by using a wire, making the switch contact a transformer, or by using electric weapons such as stun guns or stunners. If the switch is underwater, the switch can even be triggered by the explosion caused by submerging electric items.
- Dropping a Jackhammer, Drill, or Hammer on a switch triggers it as well.
Level Appearances[]
Trivia[]
- It has a different shade of red than a Switch with the Red adjective in later games.
- The Red Switch has an unused sprite in the files of Scribblenauts Unlimited, suggesting it may have been intended to return at one point.
