Scribblenauts Mega Pack is a collection for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 featuring remastered versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked, released in 2018. Similar to Scribblenauts Showdown, Mega Pack was developed by Shiver Entertainment instead of 5th Cell.
When starting the game, the credits will play and the player is given the choice between the two games. Players will get a warning if they try to play Unmasked before Unlimited due to minor spoilers; however, the game does not actually stop you from playing Unmasked first.
History[]
Simillar to Scribblenauts Showdown, Mega Pack was first leaked by a Taiwanese game rating in June 2018; however, the only information gathered from the leak was the title and the fact that Shiver Entertainment, the developers of the previous game, Scribblenauts Showdown, would return.[1]
Mega Pack was officially announced in August 2018.[2] The game was revealed to be a collection of Unlimited and Unmasked with new content for both games and was set to release on the same platforms as Showdown.
Scribblenauts Mega Pack was released on September 18, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4.
Gameplay[]
Unlimited and Unmasked play mostly the same as their original PC, Wii U and 3DS counterparts. The obvious big difference is the on-screen keyboard. While the Nintendo Switch version in handheld mode plays the same as the original releases of both games, PlayStation, Xbox and docked mode on Switch use a simpler keyboard better optimized for controllers. First introduced in Showdown, the keyboard is displayed as a rotary dial of sorts with eight circles. The circle in the middle contains backspace and the delete/confirm options, and the other seven contain the letters in alphabetical order with four in each circle. Space and hyphen are included alongside Y and Z in the final circle. This design allows players to scroll between and type much faster than the traditional on-screen keyboard.
Differences[]
Scribblenauts Mega Pack features several differences compared to the original stand-alone releases of both games
- Due to 5th Cell not developing the game, the 5th Cell employees and logo were removed. As a result, the "Self glorification!" object shard was changed. Instead of spawning a 5th Cell employee, Game Artist, Game Designer, Game Producer, or Game Developer work as the new solutions. However, by using The "@" Method to spawn in @Yarn End, you are able to access some of the developers, as well as complete the "Self glorification!" quest using them.
- The internet memes were removed due to a 2013 lawsuit, including ones 5th Cell wasn't sued over. As a result, several starite shards with meme references in their names were renamed.
- Despite this, "Internet memes" still appears as an available behavior type in the object editor, although it has no effect since all corresponding objects were removed.
- Two new levels were added to both games: Zed Zeppelin and Land of Sweet Hyperbole in Scribblenauts Unlimited and Titans Tower and Belle Reve in Scribblenauts Unmasked.
- Additionally, all releases of the Mega Pack include Punctuation Plaza in Scribblenauts Unlimited for sharing custom items online, making it no longer exclusive to the Wii U version.
- Two new brothers as part of Maxwell's Family were added, named Captain Ferdinand and Davenport.
- Strangely, neither character appears in any of the cutscenes, levels, or is mentioned by anyone in the game and the only way to spawn them is to spell out their entire name in the notebook.
- Their appearances seem to suggest that they may have been planned as new unlockable characters in Zed Zeppelin and Land of Sweet Hyperbole before being scrapped and kept in the game as secrets.
- Due to a glitch, Davenport can only be spawned in the touchscreen mode exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game.
- The Mario and Zelda characters that had previously been exclusive to the Wii U version of Unlimited (and 3DS in Europe) were removed, despite other multi-platform ports of Wii U games keeping the Nintendo content while having it exclusive to the Switch release.
- The backpack and notebook swapped places on the UI.
- Both games have an improved two-player mode, allowing a second player to press + on a second controller to play as a Maxwell clone with a blue Rooster Helmet.
Changes carried over from Showdown[]
- Most new objects introduced in Scribblenauts Showdown now appear in both games, including things such as a Three D Printer, Fidget Spinner, VR Goggles, and several Dog Breeds.
- The word hoverboard now refers to the real-life hoverboard, with the prior object now being called a "hover skateboard". This change was previously seen in Showdown.
- Notably, this excludes all of the objects that appeared in the Sandbox Store.
- Objects that were redesigned in Scribblenauts Showdown use their updated designs in Scribblenauts Unlimited. Strangely, these objects original designs still continue to be used in Scribblenauts Unmasked.
- Several of these redesigns were done to remove references to other material, while others made the objects more detailed or more accurate to real life.
- Objects that were removed in Scribblenauts Showdown were also removed in the Mega Pack, with levels being modified so these objects no longer appear. Some of these removed objects include the Laser Sword, Black Knight, Feep, and Merchant.

Trivia[]
- A 2013 Reddit AMA reply seems to suggests that Xbox One and PS4 were briefly considered as release platforms for Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked's initial releases in 2012 and 2013, but those plans were dropped due to concerns about how the typing mechanics would work on controllers .[3]
- Despite the presidential election of Donald Trump and Mike Pence in 2016, the President and Vice President characters were not redesigned.
