Description

Scribblenauts Remix is a port of Scribblenauts for iOS devices. Version 1.0 was released on the 7th of October 2011, and out of sale periods costs £2.99/$4.99.

Because of the extra power provided by iOS devices, Scribblenauts Remix feels more polished than Scribblenauts and its sequel, Super Scribblenauts, due to the improved screen resolution, and graphics. Rather than having a pixelised look, Scribblebauts Remix now boasts a cel-shaded look, which is a massive improvement over the DS games.

Gameplay

It contains most of the gameplay from Super Scribblenauts, including Adjectives, although some features such as the Level Editor are missing. The sandbox mode comes with a selection of backgrounds, with all but 2 being based on an annual US holiday. Additional backgrounds can also be purchased for $0.99 as DLC. Avatars have also been included, albeit in a limited fashion, with two included with the game Maxwell and God. As with the backgrounds, additional avatars can be purchased in themed packs for $0.99.

Also, the humour included in Super Scribblenauts is in Scribblenauts Remix, with internet memes, and also mythical beings being included as spawnable objects.

Limitations

Unfortunately, though, the "budget" that was part of Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts has carried over to Scribblenauts Remix, which means that you cannot have as many things on screen as you want, although this limitation isn't made as obvious in the DS games, with no meter. The only way to tell if you have used up your budget is if your notebook appears greyed out, indicating you need to remove some objects from your screen.

The sound effects have been removed as well, as when you interact with a musical instrument, or if you use some other device that emits a sound, a visual will appear indicating the object is making a sound, but no sound is physically heard through the speaker, but having said that, some effects such as explosions and gunfire are still there.

Reception

Scribblenauts Remix gained a decent response, with 86% on metacritic, 9/10 from ign and 4/5 on iTunes. The comments have been mainly positive, with a few complaining about bugs they found in the game.

Trivia

  • The graphics in this game are similar to the ones shown in trailers for the original Scribblenauts.
  • Eight backgrounds have been added, but two have been found in a glitch. The eight current backgrounds are Forest, Christmas, Valentines, Easter, Kingdom, Desert, Classroom, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. (World Pass or DLC). The glitched ones were a rocky mountain area and a school yard.
