Super Stars are items from the Super Mario franchise They're powerups that provide complete invincibility and the ability to kill enemies on contact. They appear as Guest Objects in the Wii U and European 3DS versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited.

They have 50 HP.

Like other Nintendo guest objects, Super Stars cannot have adjectives applied to them, and cannot be edited with the Object Editor.

Behavior[]

Upon being created, the Super Star will start bouncing around the level. Any living thing that touches the Star will collect it and make it disappear, temporarily gaining extraordinary abilities. If the star goes 7 seconds without being collected, it disappears.

Under the effects of the Super Star, music will start playing and the affected individual will start flashing Yellow. They are powered up with a unique, hidden adjective to become completely invincible, have increased speed, and be fully healed. The effect is only temporary though and runs out after 17 seconds, indicated when the music fades out and the flashing stops. Collecting another star while already under the effects of one does not reset the 17 second timer like in the Mario series, and instead the extra star simply disappears.

While someone is affected by the Super Star they are able to kill every Mario series enemy on contact, being Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Shy Guys, Boos, Bob-ombs, Chain Chomps, and Bowser. Ganondorf, and Ganon from The Legend of Zelda are able to be killed in this manner as well.

Mario and Luigi will try to collect any Super Stars they see, and they will try to use the effects of it to kill as many Mario enemies as they can.

Oddly, anybody under the effect of the Star's power has their behavior temporarily changed to try and kill Boos, Bob-ombs and Chain Chomps. This even applies to non-Nintendo NPCs and objects. This is likely a mistake and only intended for Mario and Luigi, who normally run from these enemies instead of fighting them.

The Nintendo characters able to use Super Stars are Mario, Luigi, Yoshis, Toads, Peach, Link, Zelda, Sheik, Tingle, Beedle, Navi, Gorons, and Epona. Notably, Navi and Epona are not able to hold the Star, and must have it collide with them to use it. Goombas are also able to hold Super Stars, but are not able to use them on themselves.

Trivia[]

  • The music that's part of the Super Star isn't a music change like in the Mario series. It's instead just a very long sound effect that's lasts for the duration of the star.
    • As a result, the sound will become desynced from the Star's duration and end early if the gameplay is paused for any reason. The music will also always continue to play until its intended end, even if the powered-up object is destroyed or deleted beforehand.
  • Ganondorf and Ganon can be killed by Super Stars, despite being from the Legend of Zelda series. This is likely because both series are owned by Nintendo.
    • Oddly, this does not apply to Dark Link, making him the only Nintendo enemy the star cannot be used to kill.
  • If an object under the Star's effects is put in the Magic Backpack, the Star's timer will reset on it. This allows the object to have the full time each time it is taken out.
  • Mario and Luigi will continue trying to collect Super Stars even if they're already under the effects of one. This provides them no additional benefit, unlike the Mario series where it resets the Star's invincibility timer.
  • The special effects of the Super Star are all actually managed by unique adjective that exists specifically for it.
    • This adjective isn't normally displayed in game, but is technically "@lm7". It was likely used to help manage the animations, sounds, and duration of the Star after the object itself disappears.
  • Stars making objects kill Boos, Bob-ombs and Chain Chomps was likely an attempt to get Mario and Luigi to not be scared of these enemies when they using the Star to kill enemies. It's unknown why the behavior change gets applied to anything that collects a star though, instead of just Mario and Luigi.
  • Goombas are able to be given Super Stars, but cannot actually use them and simply hold them.
  • Lily can be given a Super Star on Edwin's Farm, with the star visibly disappearing on contact with her. However, nothing seems to happen to her when this happens.
