Old sprite

Haetae is a creature from Chinese and Korean mythology. It's naturally protective of Maxwell and other people/NPCs. It can also be ridden.

Behavior

The Haetae will occasionally roll over if unattended, even if Maxwell is riding it. It will attack hostile people and animals.

Being a fire-eating dog from Chinese mythology, the Haetae eats fire. It will eat almost any objects that has fire or is on fire, no matter the size or shape. Even dangerous objects like flaming swords and immense objects like volcanoes will be readily consumed. If an object normally spawns on fire, a Haetae will eat it even if it is extinguished. It cannot, however, eat fire that is not part of an object, such as the flames spewed by flamethrowers. It is also able to be damaged by fire, despite fire being edible to it. It will follow you around if you are carrying an object that has fire, such as a match, lighter, or torch. If it eats a building, the objects inside of the building will be released. Haetae also eats meat.

It has 70 health points, making it capable of taking 3 shots from a gun. It also has a bash attack that deals 32 points of damage, enough to kill a human in two hits. It will protect itself, but not others of its species, so if you attack a Haetae near another one, they will start fighting each other.

Trivia

  • In A8-3, there is a mean Haetae, the only one in the game. The strange thing about this is that if you spawn one while in the level, he will protect you and have the mad icon. This is due to the levels programming mixing with Haetae's programming. The game thinks the one you spawned was the same one as in the level, and since Haetae are usually protective, the game gets confused and makes the Haetae you spawned be angry and protective at the same time.
  • Haetae appears on the Starite mission Get Busy Living! (or Escape from Palindromeda!) in Palindromeda.
