Vikings are any of the Scandinavian seafaring peoples who raided and settled in many parts of northwestern Europe in the 8th–11th centuries. Vikings are believed to be the first Europeans to discover America, centuries before Columbus, though he is the one popularly thought to have done so. Some Vikings believed in and whorshipped Norse gods, such as the deity Odin and his son Thor. When a Viking dies, it was believed that they would travel to a Heaven-like place call Valhalla.
