Water is a common level element found iin the Scribblenauts franchise. It is used as a obstacle to the player and appears in many levels trough out the series.

A shark being killed by a battery in Scribblenauts.

In Scribblenauts, Super Scribblenauts and Scribblenauts Remix water was used as a obstacle. Maxwell was unable to dive underwater without the proper equipment or an aquatic adjective. Electrical objects when placed underwater will explode, killing everything in contact with the water. When a land creature is forced to stay underwater, it will start to drown, and eventually die. The Level Editor have water tiles available to be placed on yours custom levels. There are some objects that spawn with water attached to them that only can be placed on the ground, these objects being oasis, ocean etc.

Scribblenauts Unlimited and Scribblenauts Unmasked change the water mechanic. Maxwell can dive underwater without equipment, and most creatures can breathe underwater, so it's mostly used as a level decoration. Electrical objects will not explode, but they still kills living creatures nearby, land vehicles will stop working when placed underwater. A new object added to the game called Drain, makes possible to the player remove water from the levels, but the water will return after reentering the level.
