Yoshis are small, friendly dinosaurs from the Super Mario franchise. They often allow themselves to be ridden and give rides to the other Mario series protagonists. Yoshis often come in a variety of different colors, though green is the standard color and the most common. They appear as Guest Objects in the Wii U and European 3DS versions of Scribblenauts Unlimited.
They have 100 HP and deal 5 HP per hit.
Like other Nintendo guest objects, Yoshis can only be given specified items, cannot have adjectives applied to them, and cannot be edited with the Object Editor.
Behavior[]
Yoshis can be ridden on, and can be used to attack enemies. Periodically, Yoshis will lay Yoshi Eggs, which can be picked up and thrown by the player. Mario, Luigi, and Toads will automatically ride nearby Yoshis.
Yoshis are curious of Mario and Luigi, will attack Bowser, and are scared of Chain Chomps. Oddly, Yoshis don't react to any Mario enemies besides those two. They are neutral to all other NPCs and the Player, and do not attack unless they are provoked.
Yoshis will drive nearby Karts or Dirt Bikes. Humorously, Yoshis can do this while someone else continues to ride him.
Yoshis pick up Baseball Bats, Golf Clubs, and Tennis Rackets, and also kick Soccer Balls.
In addition to the standard Green Yoshi, they can also be created in Red, Yellow, Light Blue, Blue, Pink, Black, and White. This is done by specifying the color of the Yoshi when creating it, similar to an adjective. (e.g. "Light Blue Yoshi") All Yoshis function identically except for the color of the Yoshi eggs they lay, which match their own color.
Yoshis can also be given Coins, Super Mushrooms, Fire Flowers, Super Stars, Yoshi Eggs, Rupees, Ocarinas, Hookshots, the Triforce, and the Master Sword.
Only one Yoshi of each color can exist in a level at a time. Creating a Yoshi while one of the same color is already in the level will destroy the older one. The player can use up to 8 Yoshis simultaneously by using each of the 8 available colors.
Trivia[]
- While Yoshi's aren't hostile towards most Mario enemies when on their own, they do still try to fight to Bowser.
- This may be a reference to the Yoshi's Island series, in which Yoshis are the protagonists and Baby Bowser is the main antagonist.
- Yoshis riding Karts and Dirt Bikes is a reference to the Mario Kart series.
- Yoshis interacting with sports items is a reference to various Mario sports games and series, such as Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Strikers/Mario Football, and Mario Superstar Baseball.
- Because Yoshis are not scared of Bob-ombs, they do not run away when Bob-ombs are about to detonate. Placing a Bob-omb near a Yoshi often results in the Yoshi dying because they see no reason to move.
- All of the colored Yoshis are coded as a completely separate objects from each other, and do not simply use adjectives like most objects.
- This is visible when the player misspells a word in the notebook, as the notebook can directly suggest a colored Yoshi when correcting them.
