Yoshi is a small, green dinosaur and one of the main characters from the Mario series as well as having his own spinoff series. He first debuted in Super Mario World as a character for Mario to ride on. He can eat almost anything. He lays eggs after eating most enemies. After eating a paratroopa, he acquires wings and is able to fly for a limited time. Although he comes in several colors, the default is usually green. His tongue has many uses besides eating, including acquiring items otherwise unobtainable (such as behind a barrier or at an unreachable height).
Appearance
Yoshi is a small dinosaur with green skin. His cheeks, chin, throat, chest, and stomach are white as well as the underside of his tail. He has red scales on his nape. In Paper Mario: the Thousand-Year Door this is turned into more of a mohawk. His shoes are orange with yellow soles. They are red in TYD. When barefoot it is revealed he has padded feet. He wears a red and white saddle for Mario to use.
Yoshi is based on such dinosaurs as the tyrannosaurus and allosaurus. Originally using paw-like appendages resembling mittens with apposable thumbs, they were later redesigned to more resemble human hands.
